Snow Delay
Day Seven: Outside on my porch, in the snow, attempting to take photos of these adorable pie crust cookies!
Last night North Coast Oregon and PDX discovered snow. Actually, we’d been told there was a possibility, and it certainly wasn’t an Atlanta scenario (I’d like to think Oregon is prepared for crazy weather!) but my family wasn’t prepared at all. Geo’s afternoon class at college was cancelled 5 minutes into it: and bringing him home 30 minutes later found IZ slipping and sliding all over the road — and behind a stuck mail truck.
And it’s not over. We’re expecting another wave of storms tonight and Saturday night. This morning IZ* and I ventured out while there was a break in the weather and the sun was still out to fetch food for the weekend and logs for our wood stove. We’re now stocked to ride out this storm, but that also means by the time I got baking and finished up today there was little light left and no real time to post anything. So, I’m calling a Snow Delay. I’ll be back tomorrow with a double post, I promise.
Until then, I’m going to go bake pizza and settle in for the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympic Games with my family. I hope that you’re all staying safe and warm tonight. Bundle up!
*speaking of romance: IZ drove me to all my errands today because I’m so nervous to drive these hills in the snow and ice.
Snow Day
Snow!
The Universe heard the collective prayers of the children of Astoria: and we woke up to snow today. Even the college kids got the day off. Thank goodness, too, because I was dreading the drive down the hill to get Geo to school. It doesn’t snow enough here to have ever invested in snow gear: and with growing teenage boys, it’s really pointless to do so.
So, instead of traipsing out in the snow, we’ve spent the day downstairs, huddled in front of a fire. Which has utterly confused Miss Sophie. At 12, she is a dog with a schedule, and she intends for you to keep it. Eventually, she gives in and joins us on the couch. But not before she’s spent a good hour or so attempting dog telepathy, “Don’t you want to go upstairs?”
It’s been too cold to be in the studio as well. And, let’s face it, sitting in front of a fire all day is just so inviting! So, I created a Flash Sale in honor of the snow today. It’s only good for a few more hours, but you’ll get 25% off of everything in the store. Scoop up a few holiday gifts?
As for me, Mireio is winding down for the year. I am anticipating closing the store in the next week or so– in order to spend some time with my family over the holidays. I have big plans for the store coming up in 2014: which I can’t wait to share with you all. Lots of good things on the way! Just like Santa!
But until then, I’m wishing you all a lovely holiday season. If you’re enjoying the snow today, keep warm and bundled up. No frostbite allowed.
Don’t Eat the Snow
Taking a late night walk and eating snow in 2007
I’m sitting in the pink room, on break from work… trying to summon up the energy to go downstairs to make a cup of tea. But I’m watching CNN’s coverage of Nemo; it just makes me want to curl up with a warm blanket in front of a cozy fire. Maybe coax someone else into making tea. It looks COLD out there. And crazy blizzard white already. Brrr…
I hope if you’re in the path of this storm, you are safe and surrounded by loved ones. I’m holding good, warm thoughts for you. Praying your power will stay on and that you have a someone to bring you tea. Stay safe and warm and INSIDE friends. And, um, maybe don’t eat the snow.
